THE TRADE (PLASTIC FURNITURE CONTROL) ORDER, 2003
In exercise of the power conferred on the Minister by section 8 of the Trade Act, and of every other power hereunto enabling, the following Order is hereby made:—
1 . This Order may be cited as the Trade (Plastic Furniture Control) Order, 2003.
2. In this Order, "plastic furniture" means plastic mono-bloc chairs and tables and multi-positional plastic chairs.
3. No person shall manufacture, import, sell or offer for sale any plastic furniture which does not conform to the requirements specified in paragraph 4.
4.-—(1) A person who manufactures, imports, sells, intends to sell or offers for sale any plastic furniture, shall ensure that each piece ofsuch plastic furniture is clearly stamped with the following:
(a) the name and address of its manufacturer;
(b) the month and year of its manufacture;
(c) the intended use of the furniture, domestic or commercial;
(d) if intended for domestic use only, the words "NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE"
(e) the number or code (mould) of manufacture;
(f) in the case of a chair, whether the chair is suitable for use in a shower;
(g) the maximum loads that the furniture will withstand for specified periods; and
(h) all required markings, such as cautionary markings, including—
(i) "NOT FOR USE ON SLIPPERY SURFACES";
(ii) "NOT TO BE USED WITHOUT RUBBER LEG STOPS"; and
(iii) any other markings specified in JS 1 Part 11
(2) Markings other than those specified in sub-paragraph (1) (h) which may be placed on the labels ofplastic furniture are—
(a) "NOT HEAT RESISTANT"; and I
(b) "DO NOT SCRAPE".
5. All testing for strength and durability of plastic furniture shall conform with the respective standards set out in the Schedule.
6. The Bureau ofStandards, established by section 3 of the Standards Act, is the body designated for such inspection and testing as is necessary in order to ensure compliance with this Order.
7. A person who contravenes paragraph 4 or 5 commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction before a Resident Magistrate to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding
twenty-four month

Standards
(a) in the case of adult plastic chairs, as contained in ASTM F 1 858 (2000);
(b) in the case of children plastic chairs, as contained in ASTM F 1 838 (2000); and
(c) in the case of plastic tables, as contained in BSEN 581-3 (1999). 'r'
Note in this Schedule-
"ASTMthis Schedule means the American Society for Testing and Materials;
"BSEN" means British Standards European Norm.
